Assertiveness

Assertiveness is the key communication skill for asking for what you want and
need whilst respecting yourself and those around you - just like our friendly
Aran Island cow on the left who looks like she knows exactly how to do it - good eye contact, positive posture and body language, and a sense of peace!

Respect is the name of the game when it comes to assertiveness.  Your team will be asked to look internally at their own behaviours and habits, to identify where, when, how and why they choose their behaviours at any one moment - whether it be passive, aggressive or assertive.  They'll also gain insight into why and how others use these behaviours too. 

Assertiveness Learning Options

Through a range of fun activities, discussion and quiet reflection time, team members will walk away with a greater understanding of themselves and their behaviour as well as a basic understanding of how and why others may be operating.  You can push the learning further to include Assertive Communication Techniques and even add a session on Managing Biffo (Conflict Management) - it all depends on your learning needs and your time frame.

Assertiveness training is great for a simple one hour lunchtime learning or Conference sesssion, to reinvigorate the idea of assertiveness with your team.  You can choose the most popular session, which is a three hour workshop of understanding self and others with some basic assertive communication techniques thrown in, and if you've got the time add an extra hour to allow for some gutsy group discussion.  The one day program is fantastic, with all the basics already mentioned plus the learning and practice of assertive communication techniques.  And if you've got the luxury of a dedicated two day Assertiveness Workshop, your team will be able to workshop and learn core conflict management solutions.  Whichever option works for you, all sessions will include a personal Action Plan to cement learning and push team members to integrate new attitudes and skills in a way that works for them.

An Assertiveness session is great to include in a Customer Service Program, or add onto a Boundaries workshop.  Often clients will start with a 3 or 4 hour Boundaries session with their team, then follow up with Assertiveness a month or so later.  Call or email to talk about what your learning needs are in this area - we can put together a Learning Proposal for you to drive your team forward in a healthy and effective way.
